Kilflynn ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE: It's that time of the year again. Yes St. Patrick's Day is upon us. And of course it will not be complete without the traditional parade. CONFIRMATION - THE Sacrament of Confirmation was administered by Bishop Murphy to Forty five Children of the Parish on Wednesday Friday, 28th February in St. Bernard‚s Church, Abbeydorney. The children were from Abbeydorney National School, Kilflynn National and Killahan National School. The Children confirmed from Kilflynn National School were: Clodagh Sheehan, Niall Doody, Darren Egan, Riadh Brosnan, Sean Gleasure, Sarah Morris, Titouan le Prince, Chloe Neenan, Shannon Nolan, Jane Sheehan, Liane Relihan, Teresa Ward, David O‚Donoghue, George O‚Donnell, Davina Leslie, Tom Mc Elligott, Lorraine Mc Elligott, Gary Neenan, Rachel Rohan, Sam Fitzgerald, Megan Weir and Stephane Garelli-Byrne. All the children are wished good luck in years to come. Congratulation to all the boys and girls.

MUNSTER VICE CHAIRMAN: Congratulations to current Kerry Chairman Sean Walsh who was voted in as the Munster Council's new Vice-Chairman. On Friday last at the 2007 Annual Munster Convention held at Lismore, County Waterford. Walsh, the current Kingdom chairman, has spent ten years at the helm in his county, but will be relinquishing that position this coming December. He has beaten off challenges from three former county chairmen to land the post of vice-president to the province's new top man Jimmy O'Gorman of Waterford.

Limerick's Donal Fitzgibbon, ex-Clare chairman Robert Frost and former Cork chairman Jim Forbes all also contested the role, with Forbes and then Frost eliminated before the final poll saw votes transferred, leaving Walsh as 27 to 25 winner over Fitzgibbon. Walsh has been involved in administration since he was just 19 years old, serving as secretary and chairman of the Moyvane club.

CROTTA SENIIORS - The Crotta Senior hurlers will commence their County league Division 1, campaign on Sunday 11th March at 12 noon in Ballyheigue versus the home side. Best of luck to Brendan Mahony, his selectors Brendan Twomey and Paud Twomey and Senior players for the 2007 season.

RIGISTRATION NIGHT FOR U8, U10's & U11 HURLERS: A Registration night for under 8, 10 & 11 will take place on Thursday evening 22nd March 2007 @ 6.30pm in Lixnaw Community Centre. We would be grateful if a parent could accompany their child on the night to provide the necessary details. It is important that all players be registered for insurance purposes. A fee of E 10 per child or E 15 for a family with two or more players registering. Looking forward to meeting you all on the night.

GOLF: Last Saturday Abbeydorney Golf Society qualified for the final of the Guinness sponsored Kerry Inter-Society Golf by beating Klinge-Pharma Golf Society of Killorglin 3 2 in a very exciting semi-final played at Castlegregory Golf Club. The winning team consisted of Dan O‚Connor, Michael Barry, James McGrath, Tom O‚Mahony, John Joe Fealy, Pat Ruane and Tom McNeice. This is a tremendous achievement and we congratulate all concerned. They now play previous winners, The Meadowlands Golf Society in the final and we wish them the best of luck.

KILFLYNN INDOOR MARKET: The Kilflynn indoor Market will be held this Sunday 11th March from 10.30 a.m. to 1p.m. at St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn. Home Baking, Specialty Breads, Organically Fed Chickens, Porter Cakes, Soda Bread, Plants and Spices, Pate, Greetings Cards, Pictures ect.

LADIES FOOTBALL: The intermediate team defeated Sneem/Kenmare in Round 4 of the Pat Lawlor Shield competition. Score: Abbeydorney 3-03, Sneem/Kenmare 1-01. The club was represented by Edel O'Connell on the Kerry team that defeated Tyrone in the National League last week-end. Underage training : U12 - every Thursday evening, 7pm-8pm, U14 - every Tuesday evening 7pm-8pm in Kilmoyley Sports Hall. All new players are welcome. FOOTBALL FINALS: The Best of Luck to Duagh and Ardfert who will compete in the All Ireland Junior & Intermediate Club Football Finals in Croke Park on Saturday 10th March

In the Junior Football Final at 6pm, Duagh (Kerry) play Greencastle (Tyrone) and in the Intermediate Football Final at 8pm Ardfert (Kerry) play Eoghan Ruadh (Derry)

CROTTA BORD NOG AGM: The annual general meeting of the Crotta Bord Na Nog took place on Thursday 1st March at the clubrooms Dromakee Kilflynn.

The meeting was chaired by Sonny Egan; He paid tribute to everyone involved in the promotion of underage Hurling and thanked all those who expended so much time and energy in coaching and training the young players.

The Treasurer's report was presented by Gerry Lenihan in excellent detail.

Forthcoming Events: The Crotta under 16 hurlers will receive their County league div 2 medals on Thursday night, March 15th, at the Bog Village at 7.OO. p.m.

A Sponsored walk in aid of the club will be held on Good Friday April 6th. This will take place from the club room at Dromakee at 6 o'clock.

The Eddie Hayes Ground hurling Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 23rd.

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE: The Abbeydorney/Kilflynn Family Resource Centre is being re-established and it anticipated that it will be up and running by September. Kingdom Pony Club

PONY GAMES - Pony Games are ongoing in Woodlands Equestrian Centre on Thursday nights

for the under 10's and under 13's and are providing much enjoyment and fun for all.If anybody would like to join in the fun they can come along on Thursday nights and join in.

MINIMUS AND TETRATHLON - Training will commence shortly for the Minimus and Tetrathlon. Anyone

PONY CLUB TOUR - The Pony Club Tour is organized for Monday 2nd April. The destination is

Kingdom Swimming Club

It has been a busy time for the A squad in particular, with the Ennis Invitation Gala coming just one week after the Munster/Connacht meet in UL. The Ennis gala was held on the 23/24 February starting on Friday night and all day Saturday. The "advance" squad went up early on Friday, as the 200m events were being held that night satrting at 6.00pm. Saturday saw an early start for the rest of the contingent and all the 100m events were held that day. A squad of 17 travelled to the Banner county, accompanied by Mary O Sullivan, Eleanor Sugrue and Tim OConnell. There were some excellent performances with all swimmers recording pb times and 13 of the squad qualified for the finals, against some very stiff competition. In total 17 individual medals were brought back to Kerry and both Paula Fitzgerald and james Hanafin achieved a Division 2 time with Christopher Kelly Rogers achieving a Division 1 time.

CELTIC TRI NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS; On the same weekend as the Ennis Gala, Niamh O Sullivan was part of the Irish Swim Team that was participating in the Celtic TriNations Championships held in the Aquatic Centre in Dublin. Ireland, Scotland and Wales were competing in this event, with swimmers competing both in individual and in relay events. Coming on the back of the Munster/Connacht meet the week before and a three day training camp on the Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Niamh performed exceptionally well by winning three individual medals and a gold medal in the relay. As if this was not enough she also recorded two personal best times in the 200m Freestyle and the 800M Freestyle. Niamh won Silver in the 200m Freestyle, Silver in the 800m Freestyle and Bronze in the 50 Freestyle (skins) - she also took Gold in the 4 X 100m Freestyle Relay. Well done Niamh !

GRADE C GALA; The 2nd Grade c gala of the New Year took place on Sunday 4th in Mayfield, Cork. A squad of 30 swimmers travelled from the Kingdom to the event which saw five other clubs competing as well as Kingdom. It was a first gala for Tim Farrell; Dylan Fitzgerald; Conor Higgins: Bobbie O Brien; Rachel O Brien and Katie Stack and they did very well. All of the swimmers recorded personal best times and 5 swimmers recorded two Grade B Times, with 3 others recording a Grade B time in one other event. 18 of the swimmers achieved a top 10 finish and 17 individual medals were won - a great result for everybody concerned.

Knocknagoshel

WITH THE General Election two months away pressure is mounting on Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to find money for this that and the other thing. On his whistle stop tour of the Kingdom last week some Knocknagoshel folk figured on some of the defutations seeking assistance. Mary B Keane of the Village figured in the group that met the Taoiseach regarding funding for Kerry General Hospital. No doubt the health should top all agendas.

DEATH: The death took place in Cork last week of Eileen Roche Nee Murphy. Eileen’s mother happens to be Kathleen Doody Murphy Watergrashill and formerly of Knockbrack, Knocknagoshel. A large contingent of Eileen’s relatives and friends were to be seen at the removal of the remains and at the burial. Sympathy is extended to all Eileen’s relatives and friends.

JIM O’CONNOR: His many relatives and friends in Knocknagoshel, were saddened at the death last week in Duagh of wellknown businessman Jim O’Connor. We extend sincere sympathy to all his relatives.

GAA:

PARISH LEAGUE Final: The final of the parish league between Knocknagoshel/ Beheenaugh and Headley’s Bridge Mein/Tooreneard will take place at Easter.

IN THE North Kerry league on Sunday last at Willie Walsh Park, Finuge 2-8 defeated Knocknagoshel 2-5.

FIXTURE: Knocknagoshel play Tarbert on Sunday next, 11th March at 2pm.

DRAMA: Locals are presently attending the Kerry Drama Festival, which runs from 2nd to 9th March, at the Ivy Leaf Centre, Castleisland.

DUAGH ON Glory Train: The best of luck to neighbours Duagh in Croke Park on Saturday evening next March 10th, in the quest to climb Everest and win the All Ireland Junior Club title. Duagh are up against it, but this team has improved in every game and we feel there’s more in the Duagh tank. So boys give it a lash.

ARDFERT ABU: Our best wishes also go to Ardfert on Saturday next in the Intermediate Club Final. On and off the field the Ferris inspired outfit can do the business.

BROSNA I.C.A.: Mr Kevin Murphy, Consultant Surgeon in Kerry General Hosptial, will address to ICA meeting in Brosna Parish Hall, on Tuesday 13th March at 8pm. He will give an overview of the services available for the treatment of Bowel, Prostrate Cancer etc. We are very privileged that Mr Murray is coming to Brosna and he would like to have a large attendance. This is an open meeting, both men and women are very welcome. It will be interesting and informative so do come along. There will be a “question box” and if you want any specific information have your query written out and it will be answered on the night. The usual hall cover charge will apply.

HUNT: Abbeyfeale Harriers had another great days hunting along the Owveg Valley on Saturday last. In all 4 foxes were chased and long hunts was the order. Among the spectators we met were Denis Morrissey, Bunaulla and Seano McAuliff Mein

COMMUNITY GAMES:

INDOOR SOCCER: The U15 boys took part in Listowel on Sunday 25th February. They were in a group with Brosna, Ballongford and Ballyheigue. Although they lost their matches they gave a good display in each game. Panel; Lorcan Cotter, Conor Reidy, Michael Brosnan, Daniel O’Connor and Denis Roche.

The U15 girls are on in Killorglin on Sunday March 11th.

DEATH: The death took place on Sunday last the 25th of February of Connie O'Sullivan, formerly of Garrynadur in London. Burial takes place in London on Tuesday the 6th of March.

Church gate collection: Many thanks to all who contributed to our church gate collection recently. Your generosity was much appreciated.

Insurance: All children competing in Community Games events need to be covered by insurance. The fee which covers all community games events is Ä5 per child for the year.

Adult Quiz: Máire UÌ Shuilleabháin, Donnacha ” Suilleabháin, Marc ” Caomhánaigh and Tadh ...ibhÌn represented Lios Póil in the Adult Quiz held in the Tankard Fenit recently. While well in the running, among the top four teams at half time, unfortunately the run of the questions in the 2nd half pipped them from the top four prize winning positions.

Solo and Group Music: Lispole also participated in both the solo and group music competitions. A very high standard and level of competition in both categories left us short of the winning podium.

Unfortunately, we were not among the top four at the end of what was a very entertaining afternoon of dance. LIXNAW COMMUNITY GAMES.The County final dancing competition was held in Abbeydorney last weekend. The local team competed thanks to John Stack for preparing the team.The County Community Games art competition will take place this Saturday March 10th at 1pm in Listowel convent school. BORD NA NOG; Training- 10 and U8 continue on Friday evening at 6-45pm in the Community centre. U16 continue on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the sports field, weather permitting. The U12s are on Wednesday evenings at 6pm in the community centre.

EASTER DRAW: The tickets for the Easter draw are in circulation and can be bought from any of the juvenile members. They cost just Ä2 each and the main prizes are a Hamper and large Easter egg. There will be some smaller prizes also. The draw will take place on Easter Sunday morning following 11-15am Mass.

MEMBERSHIP: All juvenile players from U8 to U16 have their Ä10 membership paid up. Membership for all senior players is Ä40

(including insurance, Adults; Ä30 and Minors; Ä15. Closing date is May 1st.

DEVELOPMENT; The extension to the dressing rooms is progressing well in spite of the terrible weather. By the way the extension includes a ladies changing room, a referees changing room and public toilets. Lixnaw Fabrications have made a start on the Ball Alley and are well on schedule. All going well the walls will be brought to floor level and the floor laid by the end of this weekend, all weather permitting of course. The annual Development ëNight at the Dogsí will be on Saturday May 5th in the Greyhound Stadium Tralee. Last year it was held on the August weekend but the club have reverted back to the original May date. All thatís for another day I suppose.

KERRY HURLERS; The Kerry senior hurlers travelled to Castlebar last Sunday to take on Mayo in the national league and came away empty handed losing 2-13 to 1- 8. John Griffin, Michael Conway and Michael Quilter were on the Kerry team.

GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHIPS: The Kerry County board is offering part scholarships to the Gaeltacht during the summer for children between the ages of 10-18 years. Students will learn the skills of hurling, football, music and the Irish language. If interested contact Sec Paul Wallace as soon as possible.

DEATH: The death took place of Marie O Callaghan at her home in Glin Road Moyvane after a long illness Marie like her parents taught at the local national school for many years. Her remains were removed to Moyvane church on Tuesday last and buried in Ahavoher cementery Wednesday last.She was survived by her sisters Nola nee Adams Glin Margaret nee Sheehy Shanagolagan brothers Thomas America Colm Moyvane. She was 60 years of age.Sympathy is extended to the breeved family.

The death took has took place of Sister Francis Galvin Holy Family Convent Rockferry Liverpool and late of Barragougeen Moyvane. Deeply regretted by her loving community her dear sisters Galvielle and Mary O Flathery, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.She was 84 years of age.
