LISTOWEL'S soccer stars of the future had a fantastic week of sporting fun this week during the annual FAI summer soccer school held at Celtic's grounds in Tanavalla. Scores of young Celtic members took part in what was regarded as one of the best soccer camps ever held at the club — as coaches took them through all manner of skills from tackling to dribbling, penalty-taking and much, much more.
"It went great and was a wonderful opportunity for all who took part as they each received certificates, a full kit, ball and coaching from some of the best players around," Celtic co-ordinator with the FAI, Aiden O'Connor told The Kerryman.
Youth Development Officer for the Munster area with the FAI, Darren Aherne, described the Tanavalla location as a 'wonderful facility to host one of the summer soccer schools'. "The emphasis at the summer soccer schools is kids having fun in a safe and friendly environment," he added.
Another major date for young Celtic members takes place with the annual awards night for the club's boys and girls on Tuesday, August 24, next and senior members of the club are already looking forward to one of their highlights of the year: the Listowel Celtic social.
"That's being held in the Arms on Friday, September 3, and we might have a lot to celebrate this year as the senior ladies continue a great run. We will be celebrating their winning of the FAI Junior Cup last season and they're now through to the quarter finals of this year's Intermediate as well as being joint top of the Limerick District League with their last match against Mungret at home shortly," Aiden said.
The senior men's team will also be feted at the social for their winning of the Premiere B League.
