STAFF at the Credit Union were thrilled this week to learn that two budding young artists they put forward for the organisation's national poster competition were recognised as among the best in the land. Billy Kissane from Dromclough National School was voted the overall winner in Ireland for his age category (8-10 years) when his stunning poster of a farmer at work in the fields on his tractor wowed the national judges.
And Keelan Mullins of the Nano Nagle was one of only a handful of pupils in his age category (7 years and under) awarded a special certificate of merit for his wonderful poster of a squirrel.
As the theme of this year's poster competition was 'My Credit Union, My Choice', it is presumed that Keelan's squirrel was about the
business of hoarding nuts in a responsible manner at its local lending institution; while Billy's farmer toiled in the fields to bank his honest day's pay in the same vaults.
Both artists proudly received their certificates and prizes at a ceremony in the Listowel Credit Union on Thursday, attended by their proud parents, teachers and Credit Union manager, Denis Dillane.
Co-ordinating the competition at the Credit Union was Denyse Shine, who presented the prizes and said all were thrilled for the children: "It's absolutely fantastic and we're simply delighted for them. They're great artists and were originally selected by the Listowel Credit Union to contest the local Chapter (county) finals, from which they went onto the national finals. They're two of only a handful of children nationally who did so well, which is a great testament to their talents."
