CLOUNMACON Community Centre and GAA had even more to celebrate at their annual social on Saturday night — which took place only hours after the B-team won the Novice Championship against Asdee.
"We had a brilliant night with over 200 in attendance and we want to thank everybody for making it such a special occasion once again," Tony Curtin told The Kerryman.
Officially the annual social of the Clounmacon Community Centre, it also saw the year in GAA playing a huge part.
The Novice champions received their medals, with Timmy Kelly awarded the B-team player of the year and Jonathan Twomey awarded the A-team player of the year. Mike Sheehy — described as a 'absolute gentleman on and off the pitch' — was also honoured for his dedicated service on reaching the milestone of 25 years in football action.
Sadly, the aftermath of the social was tinged with sadness on the news of the death of club stalwart, Mickey Egan (86), in hospital on Sunday afternoon. Grandfather of Kerry footballer, Sean O'Sullivan, Mr Egan had helped the club to numerous successes in past decades.
"Mickey was a true stalwart of the club all his life, a brother of Jeremiah and Billy Egan who were on the North Kerry Championshipwinning side of 1954, and our clerk of works on the pitch redevelopment in the 1980s. He is sadly missed by all Clounmacon," Tony Curtin said.
