Listowel Emmets Ladies: This week the North Kerry league kicked off with both adult teams in action away from home. Placed in division one Listowel B are always going to find this years' competition tough. This proved to be the case on Saturday when Kerins O'rahilly's ran out convincing winners. On a positive note newcomers to the adult set up, Ciara Gallagher and Sarah O'brien didn't look out of place for their young years. On Sunday last, the A team travelled to Castlegregory and won comprehensively. Lead by captain Miriam O'keeffe all forwards featured strongly on the score sheet. However the team will face a much tougher challenge next weekend when they open their county league campaign in Kilorgan against Laune Rangers. LISTOWEL RUGBY CLUB: Listowel 12 Kenmare 7 Listowel produced a powerful performance to win against Kenmare on Sunday. Listowel lined out without a few regulars which meant some recognised forwards played in the backs and they showed som of their fine skill! Listowel started as if they meant business with a 30 yard maul from a lineout but came to nothing but gave the visitors an idea of what was to come. Kenmare drew first blood when a kick into the listowel half took a cruel bounce and ended up with Kenmare getting in for a converted try. This was completly against the run of play but Kenamre led at half time. The 2nd half was dominated by listowel and especially by the listowel forwards who took the ball forward at every opportunity, gaining valuable forward momentum, off one of these go forward balls, the ball was released to the backs and it was Andy Smith who showed a neat side step to dive in for a try for listowel, he also converted the try which shows his years in the forwards were lost after his display in the backs! Listowel built on this and go the score that won the game through Paul Costello coming from excellent work again by Listowel forwards and with the ball being released to the backs, Costello had an easy opportunity to get in over the line. This was an outstanding performance by all players, who showed great pride in the listowel jersey and showed the great support what they can do, and some of the "new" backs will give the old backs a run for their money! Listowel squad: Rob Sullivan, James Magure, Jonathan Payne, John Healey, Colin Mccarthy, Tom Bradley, Jimmy Barron, Mark Bates, John Gleeson, Kevin Core, Jamie Leahy, Paul Costello, Aidan Mullvihill, Gavin Driscoll, Liam Canty Andy Smith
