Kerry Volunteer Centre: The purpose of Kerry Volunteer Centre is to encourage, support and enable volunteering throughout the county of Kerry. The Volunteer Centre provides free and confidential services in a friendly and professional manner to volunteers, not-for-profit organisations, community and voluntary groups. Kerry Volunteer Centre services have been developed to meet the needs of both volunteers and community and voluntary organisations in Kerry. Services available from the Volunteer Centre include information, support, advice, volunteer placement, volunteer recruitment, marketing, brokerage, consultancy, Garda Vetting, volunteer management training and bespoke training services. Volunteers: Kerry Volunteer Centre offers a comprehensive volunteer placement service. The overall aim of our placement service is to place volunteers in well defined, meaningful and positive volunteer opportunities with not-for-profit organisations. Volunteers decide the type of volunteering opportunities which they would like to pursue. Volunteers can continue to consider and assess opportunities until one appeals. Our Placement Officer, Linda Mccarthy, will provide volunteers with as much information, advice and support as necessary to enable him/her to avail of their particular choice. Volunteers who contact Linda receive friendly, professional and appropriate advice on how to get involved in volunteering. Once an opportunity appeals, Linda will refer or enable a volunteer to selfrefer their details to the voluntary organisation. Kerry Volunteer Centre's role in this regard is to make the match and provide whatever assistance and support is necessary to facilitate the placement. The decision for a volunteer to become involved with an organisation remains entirely with the volunteer. There is no expectation on a person to volunteer until they wish to do so. When looking to recruit volunteers, you need to be clear-sighted, creative and determined if you are going to be successful. It is important to look at things from the perspective of the potential volunteer. Putting yourself forward as a volunteer can be daunting. Organisations should make it easy for people to volunteer, by being as approachable, undemanding and unbureaucratic as possible.
