Jigsaw hopes for windfall
ONE of the most important projects in town helping young people's mental health has been chosen out of a number of Kerry groups to contest a national prize that could result in a windfall of €10,000 towards its work.
Jigsaw Listowel, which helps keep young people on the right track, was shortlisted by the EBS Community Fund to contest its national overall prize. It was this week selected with seven other community, charity and sporting groups in Kerry for a donation of €500 each under the fund, but only Jigsaw Listowel will represent Kerry in the national finals.
The EBS say the Jigsaw project was chosen in recognition of the important contribution it makes to the local community in terms of youth mental health. The overall winner of the EBS Community Fund will be selected by the general public through an online vote at www.ebs.ie.
"Jigsaw Listowel works with communities to better support the mental health and well being needs of young people aged 12 to 25. Jigsaw aims to make sure young people have access to support where and when they need it. In Jigsaw there is a group of Jigsaw volunteer mentors who are based in the Listowel and Tralee areas," EBS judges said.
"The mentoring programme starts with the idea that helpful, positive relationships are crucial to good mental health and that good personal support can help offset the loneliness, isolation and a listening ear."
