GET your Community Games on! That's the message to the youngsters of Listowel this week as the local Community Games season starts hotting up in earnest between sporting and cultural competitions.
Training in music, singing, dancing, drama, soccer, football, Olympic handball, swimming, gymnastics, basketball and much more are taking place right across town at present as the local organisation prepares its young talents for the county finals. While the Community Games is about competing, it's also about fun — as can be seen each year by the hundreds of Listowel children who take part with obvious delight.
Any hopefuls who have yet to join up are now welcome to get on board, as it 'is never too late', as the organisation say.
Anyone interested should ring Area Secretary, Eileen McCarthy, on (086) 6701245 as soon as possible.
The Games are also keen to find participants for the Projects competition, of which the county final takes place on March 19 at the KDYS Hall in Denny Street, Tralee. Closing date for entries is March 9 and this year's titles are: Under-11 - Does Sport encourage 'fair play' or 'foul play'?; Under-13 - Substance use and abuse in sport and at Under-16 - Does sport unite or divide our community, country and world?
The organisation also holds its annual churchgate collection outside Masses on January 30 and 31.
