THIS Thursday, December 10, Dingle Historical Society presents a lecture, Daltaí Dhaingean Uí Chúis - Dingle and the Schools' Manuscripts Scheme.
The bi-lingual presentation will be made by Ríonach uí Ógáin, Director of the National Folklore Collection, University College Dublin in Dingle Library at 7.30pm.
University College Dublin is custodian of over a thousand volumes of essays written by school children in primary schools in Ireland between 1936 and 1938.
The illustrated talk will give the background to the Schools' Manuscripts Collection and will present some of the material collected in the primary schools in the parish of Dingle.
The schools in question are Baile an Ghóilín, Scoil na mBráthar and Clochar na Toirbhirte.
Ríonach uí Ógáin has published numerous articles on traditional song and music and has lectured widely on the subject.
Among her audio publications are the compact discs with texts Beauty Deas an Oileáin: Music and Song of the Blasket Islands (Ceirníní Cladaigh) and Amhráin Shorcha Ní Ghuairim.
