EMMETS footballers are to swop their kit for cycling shorts as part of a fundraising fun cycle around North Kerry in October in aid of the club's operational costs.
Chairman of the Listowel Emmets Mikey Kennelly is now calling on all for their support, including past players and the parents of players to get the bikes out of the sheds, dusted down and oiled for the cycle, which takes place on Sunday, October 24, next.
"We're doing a fundraising fun cycle of 50kms around North Kerry on the day with all the Emmets team, including the ladies, taking part. It's to help in the everyday running costs of the club as we have no other source of income apart, we've no lotto, so I'd call on all past players, parents and friends of the Emmets to join with us in the fun on the day," Mikey said.
Starting and finishing at the Frank Sheehy Park, the cycle will take the club out the Caherdown Road before hitting for Coolaclarig at Lyons's Funeral Home in Derry as the circuit gets underway.
Club PRO Nora Browne explained that with the increasing overheads the club are now reliant on the fun cycle to ensure continued success. "We need quite a bit as our overheads are increasing all the time, what with ESB costs going up and other. We're looking at a target figure of around €15,000 and we hope that the people of Listowel and North Kerry will continue to look generously, as they always do, on the fortunes of the club," Nora added.
Club members will be out with sponsorship cards shortly as the preparations for the big day begin in earnest.
