Comhaltas
Wednesday March 10 2010
50th ANNIVERSARY: Last Sunday marked a milestone for Comhaltas in Kerry when the County Board celebrated fifty years in existence. The Castle Arms Hotel in Ballyheighue was the venue for the first meeting in 1959 and to celebrate the fiftieth year a plaque was unveiled by Denis Courtney Chairman of the County Board. Former officers, Munster officials and current members came together for this historic occasion and enjoyed a most enjoyable afternoon. A special thank you to the Sheehy Family and staff at the Castle Arms Hotel for their kind hospitality, to John Lucid and the local branch and all the musicians and singers who provided entertainment long into the evening. Mile Buíochas. SOCIAL: Following from the success of our celebration in Ballyheighue last weekend our attention now turns to the County Board 50th anniversary Social which will take place on this Friday March 12th at Ballyroe Hotel. Music is by Ger Murphy and tickets cost 25. Juvenile tickets are available for 15.00 and can be got from John on 0861579381. CRAOBH THRÁ LÍ CCE: (i) Some of our younger musicians are working on their pieces for Sult na nÓg. (ii) A group of 8 musicians from the branch, faoi stiúrú Mháire Bean Uí Ghríofa, qualified for the 2nd round of the GaelLinn competition, "Siansa". B'iad Dónal Ó Conchúir agus Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh (Danú) na moltóirí a d'éist agus a labhair leo agus a thug comhairle mhaith dóibh i Mala, Co. Chorcaí, le déanaí. Sa ghrúpa úd bhí Martina Ní Chonchúir, Shelley Ní Eidhin, Aisling Ní Mhuircheartaigh, Ciara Ní Arragáin, Brian Óg Caball, Maedhbh Daltún, Ailís Ni Bhrollacháin agus Niamh Ní Leathlobhair. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the final round (60 groups had entered) which would have meant performing in the Ceoláras Náisiúnta (National Concert Hall), Dublin, ach tiocfaidh ár lá! "Siansa" GaelLinn was a very pleasant experience. For information go to www.gael-linn.ie. The '09 victors are worth hearing on line. (iii) Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí is next on our agenda.
