CAMOGIE: U14 League: On Sunday last Causway faced Cillard in a do or die match in Kilmoyley. Cillard had already beaten Causeway earlier on in the season, and the girls needed a win in order to force a final. Cillard started better with a goal and a point within the first 5 minutes but Causeway settled with a long strike from Niamh Leen which found the net. Cillards midfield Orla Young and Tara Lowe were causing problems for Causeway, but a loose ball came to Ann Marie Leen who pointed leaving the scores level. The teams swapped points and even though Causeway had all the possession in the forward line, just couldn't capitalize. Half time, Cillard 1-3 Causeway 1-2. Switches in the Causeway team saw Isabel o Connor move to midfield where she did very well to curb Orla Young's runs down the centre. However, Causeway's indiscipline in the back line resulted in Aoife Fitzgerald pointing 6 frees and with Patrice Diggin having her hands full forward Megan Weir it was becoming an uphill battle. Cillard picked up the pace and followed on with 2 goals, but Michelle Gilbert went on a solo run towards goal, passed it off to Lorraine Hobbert who did very well to finish it into the net. There was only 4 points in it now but Cillard capitalized on a long puck out by Aoife Fitzgerald and with Alannah Maunsell on top form had scored a goal again. The girls battled on, but with the momentum with Cillard they finished the stronger and were U14 Co. League Champions for 2009. Well done to both teams on a sporting game. The season is now over, so enjoy the break girls, but keep practicing!! The team is as follows: Andrea Hanly, Norann Gilbert, Patrice Diggin, Siobhain Donegan, Lorraine Hobbert, Niamh Leen, Claire Murphy, AnnMarie Leen, Michelle Gilbert, Kerri o Shea, Isabel o Connor, Siobhain Donegan, Lorraine Keane, Sinead Fealy, Emma Griffin, Erin Rohan, Melissa Dineen, The club has enjoyed great success this year capturing the U10 and U12 league titles, the U15 Murphy Cup, with 9 members picking up All Ireland Feile na nGael medals, some of you for the second time, and the Limerick League also. The club thanks all the trainers, the officers, the parents and of course the girls for their great commitment to training all year. Take a bow, and we'll see you all in Feb 2010.
