Even so, a local artist, who has just hung an exhibition of her own work in the local library here in Castleisland, claims she sees the order and planning with which he went about his often massive pieces and she admits that he's one of her great artist heros.
English-born, to Irish parents, Kathleen Hurley lives near Brosna and has lived and worked in various parts of rural Kerry for the past 12 years. She has worked in several schools throughout the county as a community artist with children doing murals and workshops. She now teaches art to psychiatric patients in Listowel.
"Although my art education began in England I have lived and worked in Kerry for 12 years now. My work continues to be inspired by the beauty of the Kerry landscape," said Ms. Hurley as she installed some of her pieces at the newly opened and ideal exhibition area.
Kathleen has just completed a diploma in European Art History and is due to undertake a BA degree in Crawford in Cork in September. She has had solo and joint exhibitions in England and Ireland in the past and her Castleisland exhibition will run until the end of August.

MANAGEMENT and staff at Castleisland Community College have expressed their delight at the decision by Kerry County Council to host a civic reception in the town for the girls' basketball team that recently received one of the prestigious Bank of Ireland student awards.
"It's marvellous that the players, their coaches and the school should be honoured in this way," stated deputy principal Colm Kirwan. "It's a recognition not only of this team's achievement but also of all others who have put in such a tremendous effort and achieved so much. The real message of this award is that hard work, a commitment to develop and improve with real team spirit and determination will get you to where you want to go.
