RIVER Island Hotel manager, Billy O'Connor has laid down his intentions for the future wellbeing of a forthcoming charity event.

It's being billed as: 'The 1st Annual Island Bachelor of the Year Award' and it's happening at the hotel on Friday, February 12, at 8pm. A lot of background work has gone into the event to date and all the eligible bachelors around the valley are being asked to enter for the award.

"We're calling on the ladies of the area too to turn up on the night and bid for the bachelor of their choice. The highest money achieving bachelor and his 'owner' will attend a Valentine's Night dinner at the River Island Hotel.

"It will be a bit of fun on the night and we've decided to donate the proceeds to the Kerry Parents & Friends Residential Centre at Glebe Lodge."

The main event will be followed by live music with local band 'Banned' in the Night Owls Night Club until 2am.

The line-up of 'contestants' is being finalised at present and will be made known by midweek - but it is expected that a couple of well known faces will be 'up for grabs' too.
