CHEOIL AN GHEIMHRIDH: Well done to Athea dancers who Sunday last travelled to Cappamore to take part in Cheoil an Gheimhridh finals. They danced the orange and green Limerick set very well but were up against stiff opposition and older dancers. Keep up the good work, your turn will come. Congratulations to John Joe Tierney for getting them this far. The set comprised of Molly Clooney, Jack Gleeson, Amy O'Riordan, William McEnery, Katelyn O'Connor, Padraig O'Sullivan, Sinead Hunt and Timothy Tierney. CELEBRATION: Newcastle West Bereavement Group will hold a special service for those bereaved by suicide next Sunday Jan. 31st., at 3.30 p.m. in the church. The service is open to everyone so if you have been bereaved you are most welcome. You may wish to bring a photo and place it on the remembrance table. MONTHS MIND mass for the late Fr. Gerry Roche will be celebrated Sunday Feb. 14th in Athea church. The time of 2 p.m. is to be confirmed. HOMELESS: This weekend before all masses there will be a collection for homeless people. You are asked to give as generously as possible. BIRTH: Congratulations and good wishes to Mike O'Connor, son of Margaret and Mike, Templeathea and his wife Sinead who were blessed with their new baby boy recently. Congrats also to the proud grandparents. AEROBICS resumed in the hall last Thursday at 8 p.m. and a great crowd attended. You can join in at any time, it's great fun and you make new friends and above all you improve your fitness. CONGRATS to Raymond Brouder who was the lucky winner of the E18,500 Kileaney lotto draw recently. He was presented with his cheque Sunday night at Moore's Bar, Carrickerry. REBECCA STORM: The annual coming of Spring celebration with Rebecca Storm in Abbeyfeale church is Friday Jan. 29th, booking at 087 9066437. LUCKY NUMBERS: Athea community council held its draw Saturday night at Top of the Town. The jackpot was E7700, numbers drawn were 11, 19, 23 and 28, no winner. E50 to Paul Costello, Glin, E30 to Mary McGrath, Lower Athea and E20 each to Cian Noonan, Declan & Mairead, Bernadine Enright and Conor Murphy. Seller's prize to CD Printing and Batts. Next draw is at Batts and the jackpot will be E7800. GOOD WISHES to Eileen Brosnan who celebrated her 60th birthday with family, relatives and friends Saturday night at Top of the Town.
