LETTER: Thanks to all in Lidl Tralee

Sir, I wish to write about an incident, which happened to me last week following a shopping trip to Lidl supermarket in Tralee.
I mislaid my purse at 9pm having called into the supermarket on my way home around 6.30pm. I could trace my movements from then and knew that I had lost the purse there. As I thought it was most likely I would not find it again, I set about calling the Gardai and also cancelling my credit card. I tried, in vain, to contact Lidl by phone that evening and decided to ring them again the next morning, just in case.
I must admit there was a considerable amount of cash in the purse and I felt it was a lost cause trying to locate it again, but I would go through the motions anyway. I was to be pleasantly surprised the following day when I rang the head office and was told that they did indeed have my purse. I was afraid to ask if any money was in it but was so relieved to have it found nevertheless.
Everything in the purse was intact and I thanked the men there for their help and honesty. It is a rare occasion that there is a good outcome in these situations and as I tried to give them something from the purse, by way of a thank you, they both refused. I couldn't persuade them and came away feeling relieved, glad and yet frustrated that they wouldn't take anything from me.
Perhaps it is right then that I publicly acknowledge these gentlemen who were so honest and helpful and to whom I am so grateful. Too often we forget that there are some very good, honest people in the world.
To these people, thank you so much for restoring faith in human nature. Sincerely, Claire O'Connor, Tralee
