TWO Kerrymen played on the New South Wales team which won the Australian Gaelic Football final in Perth: Tom Walshe, of Tarbert, and Pat O'Donovan, of Rathmore.
The final was played after three days of competition involving five states: Victoria, Western Australia, Southern Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.
Western Australia won through to the final with New South Wales and a thrilling game was provided, with New South Wales snatching the winning point with the last kick of the game (from a sideline ball). New South Wales also won the hurling competition, to complete a great double.
All players and officials paid their own way to Perth. For some a journey of over 2,000 miles was involved.
Other Kerry men in action in the football competition were Ted O'Sullivan, Rathmore (Victoria); Seán O'Connor, Kilcummin (Victoria); Mick O'Connor, Glenbeigh (Western Australia) and Neil O'Sullivan, Ballyduff (Victoria).
