A QUESTION time with Peter Murphy, the wellknown television question master, in charge, is a formidable line-up and this is what Gneeveguilla Macra na Feirme organised for their Brain of Desmond quiz at O'Connor's Hall.
In 1978 it was the Brain of Kerry, but in 1979 the horizons widened and it is a Brain of Desmond quiz that has would-be panellists all over Cork, Kerry and parts of Limerick learning questions like: "Who was Napoleon's Chief Marshal?"
After successfully hosting and organising the Brain of Kerry quiz in 1978 the members of Gneeveguilla Macra decided in 1979 to increase their territory and enfold the whole of 'Desmond'. The exact area of Desmond is one of those things which are not easily definable, but for the purposes of this competition Macra Gneeveguilla have decided that it shall consist of Kerry, Cork, Limerick and Waterford.
Though Macra Gneeveguilla was only entering its third year of operations in 1979 it had already won the County Light Entertainment for two years in succession. This is a Macra competition, and, of course, they represented Kerry in Munster finals in those two years of 1978 and 1979.
"This competition is typical of what you would see in Tops of the Town, with a mixture of singing, dancing and comedy," said Eugene O'Leary, club chairman of co-ordinator of these shows with Liam Casey.
