Health care couldn't be surpassed

Sir, Recently I had reason to be admitted to Tralee General Hospital via A&E for a realtively short stay of five nights.
I wish to convey my sincerest gratitude and admiration to all the staff I came accross during that time – from the administration staff, the cleaning staff, the catering staff, the porters, the nurses (both trainee and staff nurses), the junior doctors and consultants, all of whom I cannot praise highly enough.
They work in the most difficult of circumstances and I saw staff being verbally abused, physically threatened and victims of downright rudeness and arrogance. Yet they went on with their highly responsible job in the most professional manner.
Yes I was on a trolley in A&E – but so what! I can say I was treated with as much respect, dignity and professionalism there as I received in The Muckross ward and later in The Clonfert ward. Never once did I see anyone with a superiority or indeed an inferiority complex. It was truly a magnificent definition of teamwork.
I never again want to hear anyone complain about the health service. The health service I got could not be surpassed. It is the people at the top who inflict long hours and limited resourses on the staff at the coalface who have questions to answer.
Bail ó Dhia ar an obair!
Sincerely, John D. O'Connor, Dingle.
