COLLEGE LIFE: Magical mystery tour is a highlight of Rag Week

Wednesday March 10 2010

LAST week we held our Raise and Give week, which has been one of the most successful ever. Last Wednesday we had our annual mystery tour and like I said last week, for once it was kept a mystery until we arrived to our final destination - Cork.

We had a few stops on the way to break up the journey after leaving the Blasket Bar at 7pm. We stopped off in Killarney in McSorley's Bar for a while before jumping back on the bus and hitting the road again.

Everyone on the six bus convoy was very excited and trying to guess where we were going, many thought we were heading to Waterford. Before heading to Cork City we stopped off in Bishopstown where we showed our fellow CIT students what IT Tralee was made of. The final stop for the night was Cork City where everyone danced the night away before heading back to Tralee.

To wind up Raise and Give week we had a RAG ball in Horan's nightclub with Spin Southwest's top DJ, Eoghain Fitzgerald. He played everyone's favourite songs all night long along with hundreds of requests.

So this year we have had an amazing Raise and Give week, from Kerry's own Killian Young randomly deciding to do the bungee jump, not once, but twice, to having a real mystery tour. It has been a great week and I would like to thank everyone who participated during the week and helped raise thousands for both local and national charities.

Last week USI had a great win when the members of the Students Union and NUI Maynooth voted for their union to become re-affiliated to the Union of Students in Ireland (USI). NUI Maynooth is coming back after leaving USI almost ten years ago.

Coming up is IT Tralee's annual College Ball and we have a great night planned. As usual it's formal dress so go out and get those dresses and suits and get ready to dance the night away.

The College ball this year will be on Tuesday March 16 in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel. We have the fantastic Hot Fuzz performing to the crowds, before Ray Stack takes everyone into the early hours of the morning.

The night, which includes a four course meal and entertainment is a ticket only event. There are only a very limited number of tickets available so if you are interested in coming along then get your tickets early which are on sale this week.

This year's Societies Awards will be taking place this Thursday evening in the Hotel, Catering and Tourism Restaurant. All societies members are especially encouraged to attend.

All award winners from the evening will then go on to represent IT Tralee at the BICS awards (National Societies Awards) in Athlone.

Next week I will have a final total of how much was raised last week for charity and fingers crossed it will be a record amount.
