THE people of Iveragh have been challenged to come forward with £100 per working person to fund major expansions in the area.
The challenge was thrown out at the weekend when the local gaeltacht based co-operative, Naomh Fhionain (C.N.F.) launched a share capital drive to finance the plans. The public launching of the share drive in Waterville was followed this week by a house to house canvass.
The expansion plans include the establishment of two small industries — a turf-cutting project and a local forest development — as well as continuing with a land reclamation programme. Co-Op chairman, Mr. Liam Ó Gugáin said on Saturday that they wanted the people of the area to become active members of the Co-Op.
If he didn't get a satisfactory investment and involvement from local people, he warned, then the future of Iveragh for its native community was a bleak one.
