THE soulful melodies, harmonies and rhythmic bass synonymous with the music of Motown will resonate throughout The INEC and Gleneagle Hotel for one weekend only this Easter.

Stalwarts of the Motown music industry The Temptations and The Four Tops will both perform their only Irish concert at the INEC on Saturday, April 3. While New York's finest, The American Drifters will play the legendary Gleneagle Ballroom on Sunday, April 4.

Motown emerged at the height of the civil rights movement in America with songs that defined a generation including, Get Ready, My Girl, I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) and Reach Out I'll Be There.

The history of The Temptations is the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. It wasn't until 1964 however, that the Smokey Robinson written-and-produced The Way You Do The things You Do turned the guys into stars and an avalanche of hits soon followed.

Even after 40 years The Temptations have remained true to their tradition. They survived the whims of fashion and stuck to their guns. "Great singing," says longterm member Otis Williams, "will always prevail."

The Four Tops' first Motown hit, Baby I Need Your Loving, came in 1964 and catapulted the band to stardom. The songs that followed were soulful, bittersweet and acrossthe-board successes. I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch), was a Number One smash hit in 1965, and is one of Motown's longest-running chart toppers. Other classics soon followed including, Reach Out I'll Be There, Standing In The Shadows Of Love and Something About You.

In 1990, with 24 Top 40 pop hits to their credit, the Four Tops were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Though they would no longer have hits on record, the group continued to be a hit in concert, touring incessantly, a towering testament to the enduring legacy of the Motown Sound they helped shape and define.

First formed in 1953 in downtown New York, The Drifters have over fifty hits to their name and have sold in excess of 214 million singles and 114 million albums across the world.

Spanning some 35 years, their catalogue of hits include, Saturday Night at The Movies, There Goes My First Love, Under The Saturday, April 3 cost €30. Tickets to see The American Drifters live in The Gleneagle Ballroom on Sunday April 4 cost €20. Special accommodation packages are available in neighbouring hotels The Gleneagle and The Brehon.
