Gleneagle welcomes Dickie
LEGENDARY showman Dickie Rock will return to the Gleneagle Ballroom on Saturday, September 4.
Dickie has been a regular at the Gleneagle Summer Cabaret since the 60s. Dickie's story started in his hometown of Cabra West, outside of Dublin. At an early age, he was already singing in the church choir and at 16, joined his first band, The Melochords.
Dickie's big break came in 1962, when the lead singer for the fledgling Miami Showband, Jimmy Harte moved to the United States. Dickie auditioned for the job and when he was accepted, the stage was set for one of the Showband era's greatest acts. Their first hit single was There's Always Me which hit number one in the Irish charts in 1963. Dickie then went on to release a staggering 25 Irish hits from 1963 to 1983.
Through the nineties and even today, Dickie remains one of Ireland's most enduring entertainers. He continues to tour and drawing legions of fans wherever he appears.
Tickets to see Dickie Rock in The Gleneagle Ballroom cost €10 and are available from the INEC Box Office. Tel 064 6671555. The first fifty bookings will receive a free copy of Dickie's autobiography, Always Me.
