NY Governor vows to approve same-sex marriage
Friday October 23 2009
The Governor of New York state has said he expects to sign a bill legalising gay marriage in the coming weeks.
David Paterson told a dinner arranged by the Empire State Pride Agenda last night that he expected the state senate to pass the legislation shortly.
The bill was blocked by a senate coup in June, but Mr Paterson says he will place it on the agenda for a special session in the weeks ahead.
If passed, the legislation will make New York the seventh US state to legalise same-sex marriages.
